During the tour you will discover the unique open-air exhibition of locomotives, passenger cars, freight wagons and railway equipment at the Museum of History and Technology of the Southern Railway in Kharkiv. You will also learn the history of the development of Southern railway from the end of the 19th century until the present days.
The unique collection of the museum is located both in the exhibition halls and on the open-air grounds. You will be surprised to see a great number of locomotives, passenger cars, railroad technique and freight wagons, displayed in the museum. The highlight of the exhibition is a Felix Dzerzhinsky mainline freight steam-engine locomotive that was being produced in the USSR from 1931 until 1941.
You’ll be able get inside of the salons of some passenger cars and explore their interior finishing. Moreover, you will see three interesting statues – a railway pointer, a passenger and a station duty officer, made especially for this museum.
When you visit the indoor exhibition halls, you will discover an amazing display of the models of railway machines and track, created by a talented collector and modeler B. Fedorov. It includes the layout of the railway station, small copies of the carriages, semaphores and rail crossings.
In addition, you will see the display of the pictures portraying the crash of the imperial train of the Alexander III and his family in 1888 and learn the history of their miraculous rescue.
